This is the ghost of Lady Dorothy Townshend. The most famous and well
documented ghost photo ever taken. Lady Dorothy Townshend was the
wife of Charles Townshend, the second viscount of Raynham. This photo
was taken in 1936 by Captain Provand and Indre Shira, two
photographers who were assigned to photograph Raynham Hall for
County Life magazine.
Before Lady Dorothy Townshend marriage to Charles Townshend,
Dorothy was known to have had several affairs when she lived in France
and was also the mistress of lecherous Lord Wharton. Charles suspected
Dorothy of continuing infidelity and is said to have locked his wife away
in a remote corner of the house until her death. However, down the main
staircase. Dorothy' s ghost haunts the massive oak staircase and other
areas of Raynham Hall.
